<![CDATA[Fox Cities Composite Squadron - Civil Air Patrol - Home]]>Fri, 20 Aug 2010 12:48:30 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Helicopters in Aerospace Education]]>Fri, 20 Aug 2010 12:19:33 -0800http://www.foxcitiescap.org/1/post/2010/08/helicopters-in-aerospace-education.htmlDuring the Tuesday, August 16, 2010, meeting of Fox Cities Composite Squadron cadets had the opportunity to learn about the part the rudder, aileron and flaps play in keeping a plane in flight as part of their Aerospace Education instruction.  The class was taught by Lt Col Pete Boulanger, the squadron's Aerospace Technology Officer.  Lt Col Boulanger then had the Cadets creat their own helicopters to test the information that was learned.  The completed vehicles were then taken outside to test out their flying capabilities.  Helicpters were released several times, with a few modifications after the launches to repair equipment.

]]><![CDATA[Civil Air Patrol Members Respond to Accident]]>Tue, 03 Aug 2010 18:35:04 -0800http://www.foxcitiescap.org/1/post/2010/08/civil-air-patrol-members-respond-to-accident.htmlOn Wednesday July 28th, Fox Cities Composite Squadron members, driving north on Hwy 41 after a busy day working the National EAA Recruiting Booth, came upon an overturned vehicle in the ditch.  The single vehicle accident had happened just moments before.  A passerby who witnessed the accident called 911 while Captain Robert Koehler, Captain Kurt Lichtenwald, Second Lieutenant Linda Sanchez-Reid, Senior Member Connie Lichtenwald and Cadet Second Lieutenant Mitchell Lichtenwald implemented their training to assess the situation, assist the victim, and provide crowd control until emergency personnel arrived.  Luckily, the vehicle driver while disorientated did not appear seriously injured.  Also assisting at the scene was a United States Army combat medic who had been attached to an Air Force Security Unit in Iraq.  Emergency response personnel from Winnebago County arrived quickly at the scene.]]><![CDATA[Summer Field Training Exercise]]>Mon, 19 Jul 2010 19:27:33 -0800http://www.foxcitiescap.org/1/post/2010/07/summer-field-training-exercise.htmlOn 16 and 17 July the Fox Cities Composite Squadron conducted a field training exercise at Calumet County Park.  The Park provided a basic structure with only electricity.   This allowed the participants a valuable opportunity to complete the training with minimal technology; a lap top with preloaded forms and a printer.  Two training scenarios were utilized; a downed aircraft and missing person.   Both missions were accomplished through collaboration between Fox Cities’ aircraft and ground team members.   The training was to last through Sunday; however the threat of severe weather forced the mission to conclude early Saturday evening.   A great team effort was made by all participants at this self funded training mission so thanks to the outstanding IC, Mission Staff, Aircrew, Ground Team Leaders, Ground Team Participants and SET Examiners.  Fox Cities Composite Squadron would like to thank Calumet County Park for their continued support of our training missions.

Professional Cadet Training 2010
Cadet Leadership School
Noncommissioned Officer School
Who:
All cadets are welcome to attend this year’s program, with separate schools tailored to Cadet Airman and Cadet Noncommissioned Officers.

What:
A weekend of hands on training from knowledgeable cadet and senior instructors. 
·         Cadet Airman will be introduced to opportunities within the organization, and receive training to put each individual on an initial path to a successful CAP career.  Students will work toward their next promotion, and learn valuable skills that translate followership into leadership.
·         Cadet Noncommissioned Officers will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to lead and instruct other cadets, while mastering their own drill, communication, and leadership skills.  Students will  also leave with a greater understanding of how a squadron runs, where they fit within the chain of command, and how to be a successful leader.
·         Cadet Officers (course to be offered if there is interest) will develop the skills to be successful cadet commanders and cadet officers.  Students will be challenged to think about issues facing the cadet program and will receive training from a staff that has had years of experience running the cadet program, giving both cadet and senior perspectives.

Where:
The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Training Center, located at the EAA grounds in Oshkosh, WI.  This is the same facility utilized by Blue Beret and National Flight Academy.  Click here for directions.

Effective 5 February 2010, Major Terrance Schmitt has stepped down as the Fox Cities Composite Squadron Commander after serving in this role for the the last year and a half.  At the Squadron Dining Out Friday night, the official change of command ceremony took place, instating Captain Robert Koehler as the new Fox Cities Composite Squadron Commander.


Thank you Major Schmitt for your service and best of luck to Captain Koehler as the new Commander.

Eighteen cadets from Fox Cities Composite Squadron are currently attending the squadron's first running of the "Camp Curry" Program, which is an Airman Basic Course and Airman Leadership School developed in Illinois Wing and brought to Wisconsin by Capt Nina (Miller) Schmitt.

Capt Schmitt is serving as the director and has six senior members and two cadets from Fox Cities, as well as two cadet officers from ILWG, serving as instructors.

Cadets are receiving instruction in Drill and Ceremonies, Customs and Courtesies, Followership, and Leadership, in additon to other topics.
